Welcome to Challenger Secondary Schools. The following are some rules and responsibilities that reflect district policies. 2. Students who ride bicycles, roller blades, or skateboards to school must wear approved head protection helmets. Bicycle, roller blade, and skateboard use is not allowed on school district property. 3. The use and possession of tobacco products is not allowed in any district facilities, vehicles, district property, or at any school sponsored events (field trips, dances etc.). The policy applies to all students, parents, staff, and the general public. No smoking on the school property, (including the parking lot and/or a vehicle). 4.
5. All vehicles must be registered with the office, where students will supply documentation of insurance, registration and a drivers license. The parking lot/your vehicle, is not an appropriate place to wait for class, friends, etc. (the parking lot is an off-limits area.) Please follow the speed limit of 10 m.p.h. when on school grounds. 6. Students are not to have pagers or cell phones on campus. Students who violate this rule may have those devices confiscated the first time. The second time they may be confiscated and returned only to a parent/guardian. Repeat violations may result in the pager/cell phone being confiscated for the remainder of the school year. If a family member needs to reach you in case of an emergency, they can call the office and you will be notified immediately. 7. Telephones are not for student use except in emergencies. You must ask office staff permission to use the phone. Transportation to and from school should be arranged in advance. 8. Any time you are absent, we must receive a note or phone call from a parent/guardian explaining the reason for the absence. 9. Students are discouraged from bringing personal items to school such as CD/s and CD players. The school is not responsible if the items are lost, stolen or damaged. 10. Students who need to take medications at school must have a form from their doctor filled out and on file in the health room. The medication must be kept in a locked cabinet in the health room, unless the doctor’s order stipulates that the student may carry it with them. i.e. an inhaler. Students are not to possess medication of any kind at school, regardless of their age, without a doctor’s form on file. 11. Students who need to leave early because of illness or appointments must first check in with the health clerk and sign out in the main office. Students under the age of 18 must have parent permission (note or a phone call) in order to sign themselves out early. 12. A school principal, vice principal, or principal’s designee may search a student, the student’s possessions, and the student’s locker if the principal, vice principal, or principal’s designee has reasonable grounds to suspect that the search will yield evidence of the student’s violation of the law or school rules. A search is mandatory if there are seasonable grounds to suspect a student has illegally possessed a firearm in violation of RCW 9.41.280. 13. Challenger does not have a library, but students have the opportunity to use the Internet to research information. Students will be required to comply with the school’s Internet Code of Conduct. When students log onto the Internet with their personal identification number, an electronic record is kept, along with the date and time at the district office. Students who go into inappropriate areas on the Internet will lose their privileges and may be assigned additional conditions to address the issue. 14. When students leave/graduate Challenger, they need to make sure all books are turned in and there are no fines owed. Students can then obtain copies of their transcripts. We have a committed staff focused on providing outstanding support and services to students. Please feel welcome to talk with us regarding support services. |
